The Strategic Opportunity of Sustainability in the Energy Sector

The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) is proud to announce the launch of a pioneering educational initiative, “The Strategic Opportunity of Sustainability in the Energy Sector.” This course marks a significant milestone as it is the first of its kind to be offered by SEG, focusing on the increasingly vital role of sustainability within the energy industry.

The Instructor

Leading the course is Maria Angela Capello, a distinguished figure in the realm of sustainability with a wealth of global expertise and certifications. Capello stands out as the first individual to ever instruct on this topic for SEG, bringing her extensive knowledge and experience to the forefront of SEG’s educational programs.

Capello’s credentials include certifications in Circular Economy and Sustainability Management by Cambridge University, Penn State and the IFP. Her contributions to the energy sector have been recognized internationally, including an endorsement by UNESCO for her work in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through geosciences.

“This is the first time the SEG offers a course in sustainability, and it comes timely, to fill a gap in the educational offering of geoscientists working in energy,” says Dr. John Meade, manager of Professional Development at the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG).

Positive Impact

The course content is designed to be vital for energy workers, addressing the strategic importance of sustainability practices in the energy sector.

Participants will gain insights into sustainable energy management, the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting, and the latest trends in decarbonization and renewable technologies. The participants will be able to take away key insights into why the energy sector is urgently shifting to a sustainable approach, and how to apply this new perspective in their day-to-day work.

The modalities of delivery of this innovative course are online or in-person.

First Session

The first session will be held soon: April 16 – 17, 2024. It will be in virtual format, April 16th from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and April 17th CST (GMT-6).

SEG invites all professionals in the energy sector to seize this strategic opportunity to enhance their understanding of sustainability and its critical impact on the future of energy. The course is a testament to SEG’s commitment to providing cutting-edge education that empowers individuals and shapes the industry.

3 Ways Technology is Going to Shape the Oil and Gas Industry Free to Download Today

Oil and gas operations are commonly found in remote locations far from company headquarters. Now, it's possible to monitor pump operations, collate and analyze seismic data, and track employees around the world from almost anywhere. Whether employees are in the office or in the field, the internet and related applications enable a greater multidirectional flow of information – and control – than ever before.
